All classes are $15 for members, $20 for non-members, unless otherwise noted. Please contact the individual teacher to register and for a supply list. Classes may be canceled due to under-attendance.

Sat 11/2    9-12    Composition Basics for Outdoor “Plein Air”   All Levels welcome    All mediums

Description: Our goal is to get area artists excited about getting together for plein air painting! In this second class we will learn to plan success early in plein air by looking at examples of basic compositions. The class will also learn to use view finders, “artistic license”, focal points, and notan sketches for planning areas of light and dark in composition.

Class will meet in the indoor classroom, look at examples, discuss techniques, and then go outdoors for some hands on plein air work.

Supply List: Paints in the preferred medium, A few basic brushes, Paper towels and a little trash bag, Preferred substrate or a sketchbook, Notepad, Pencil or charcoal for sketching, Bug spray.

Tues 11/5         9am- 12            Class:  Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor

Class for intermediate and advanced watercolor artists that come for guidance in improving their existing style. Emphasis on learning to pay attention to values in your subject before you start a painting, literally dissecting the subject and observing the different values before you start.

Supplies:  Watercolors, brushes, paper towels, water containers. Either 300 or 140 pound watercolor paper recommended, but 300 is suggested for its strength and blending properties. Also water containers, watercolor brushes…#0, 1, 2, 3, 6, Flat# 2, 4, 6, 8.  One large 1 inch Flat brush for washes, gum eraser, wax free tracing paper, graphite pencil, fine red pen such as Pilot pens for tracing, box Kleenex, paper towels.

Bring a subject of one’s own as it may then be entered into shows, however the instructor can supply a subject for those who do not bring their own. Subjects provided in a class are not allowed in shows.

Objective: Focus on learning basic watercolor techniques, which can be applied to any water medium. The class is taught in a fun, and relaxed environment. We will focus on the elements of a landscape…..grass, trees, skies, water, rocks, rain, etc.  After that we will move on to “abstract” watercolor, using various tools to apply texture.

Description: Come and enjoy playing and creating with adult chalk , A.K.A. Pastels. Pastels are fun and forgiving, making them a wonderful painting medium! Each class includes a short lecture and demo on subjects that will improve your technique in bringing your masterpiece to life.

Subject examples:   *Values and Hues, *Buildings in a landscape, *How to create distance and depth,   *Water reflection with soft pastels, *What's an underpainting?*How to Frame a soft pastel painting

Supplies:  Your painting will only be as good as your tools are. So take the time to invest in good pastels and paper. 

Reference photo: something that inspires you! Printed or on an Ipad or phone, Paper towels or a hand towel, rag, Baby wipes, Artist tape or painter's tape, white or beige only! Wax paper (try the Dollar Store),16"x14" or larger masonite board (Home Depot),Ruler and or T-square, Apron or old shirt ( to protect your clothes),Gloves, Mask,Soft pastels and pastel paper. Thurs 11/7       1 -4 pm Class: Basics in Oil Painting   Level: Beginners

Description:  How to start a painting: Pick a subject, either bring a photo or one will be supplied by teacher; Create a Sketch; Transfer to canvas; Create a Notan –  Different Values within the painting; Edit the values.

Supplies: Sketch Pad, pencil or charcoal, #4 flat, #4 filbert or round; tube of transparent iron oxide or burnt sienna oil paint & tube of white; small jar of Liquin;  pad of palette paper; paper towels or rags.

 

Sat 11/9           9 -12    Class: Fused Glass –Creating Gnomes

Description: Create two Gnomes for Christmas ornaments or sun catchers. Great for Pollyanna gifts. Gnomes will be fired at my home, and can be picked up a week later at the Art Club. Cost is $45 members, $50 non-members. Includes all supplies, use of tools, and firing. Class is limited to 8 participants.

Description: How to paint that cute little kitty! This 3 hour workshop will demonstrate how to paint wet into wet for that soft fuzzy hair then finishing with a very tight rendering of its features.
A drawing of the kitty will be provided to transfer to your watercolor paper.
Materials needed:  #2, @4, #6 round watercolor brush. Masking tape and mounting board to attach paper too.
I strongly recommend using Arches or Saunders Waterford paper to achieve the correct results.
I will have 16” x 12” sheets of 140 # Waterford paper available to purchase for $3.00 each. (My cost).

We will discuss color choices for plein air - for instance “the sky isn’t blue” and “nature’s sense of humor in greens”; value in color; warm and cool shadows; using color to create atmospheric perspective; etc. Class will meet in the indoor classroom, look at examples, discuss techniques, and then go outdoors for some hands on plein air work.

Supply List: Paints in the preferred medium, A few basic brushes, Paper towels and a little trash bag, Preferred substrate or a sketchbook, Notepad, Pencil or charcoal for sketching, Bug spray.
